Proper Cargo Ventilation

This week, I have learned about cargo ventilation that is very important in taking care of the cargo. Proper cargo ventilation is applied at ships loading agricultural products that will be rotten if not ventilated properly. As a first step to avoid moisture damage that becomes the source of cargo claims, they implemented all agricultural carrying ships must have the proper ventilation because the cargo owners typically charge or asked for the compensation regarding their cargoes. I also learned about the types of sweat like cargo and ships sweat. Cargo sweat refers to condensation which may form on exposed surfaces because of the large amount of warm air produced by cargo. The other one is the ships sweat that refers to the condensation that forms on a vessel’s structure when warm air comes in contact with cold surfaces as vessel moves to colder climate. As a result, cargo may be damaged by the drops of sweats form in the cargo holds.
As a conclusion, cargo ventilation must be implemented in all ships carrying an agricultural product that becomes easily rotten because improper ventilation will loss the main objective of the ships owner and that is to gain profit.
